Why do people think the Church of the Middle Ages was the offspring of the Bible?

The Bible wasn't even printed in English until the Reformation. The first was printed in Latin because of the Pope. Much of what is considered religious history has more to do with politics and power than belief in God sadly. Theocracies have more to do with power and politics than religion.
